Advice on Contraception
Here at RPM Health Clinic, we understand that all women have different needs when looking for a method of contraception. While contraception is free on the NHS we know that for many women, with busy lifestyles, it is difficult to get an appointment at a time that is convenient for you.
Why should you consult our clinic for contraception advice?
At The RPM Health Clinic we offer you a consultation in a private setting at a time that is convenient for you. You will have your available options explained to you, and if appropriate, prescribed or administered to you.
What contraception choices do we offer?
Tablets (the pill)
Patches
Three-monthly injections
We are sorry, but at this moment we are not able to provide the copper coil, mirena coil or implants.
Visit your NHS GP or Sexual Health Clinic if you wish to explore these options.
What to take into consideration when choosing a contraception option
Whether you want to become pregnant fairly soon, in a few years or not at all.
A method to suit your lifestyle.
Whether you want to use a contraceptive method every day, every time you have sex or less often.
Do you offer Emergency (morning after) pill prescription?
The morning after pill should only be used as a precautionary treatment. It is an emergency form of contraceptive method used when other forms of contraception have not been used during unprotected sexual intercourse.
Despite its name, the morning after pill can be taken up to three days after unprotected sex, however the sooner after unprotected sex the morning after pill is taken, the more likely it is that it will work effectively.
Allergy Treatments and Management
Hayfever is caused by an allergic reaction to pollen. When it comes into contact with the mouth, eyes, nose, or throat, the body reacts by making specific antibodies. Hayfever affects people at different times depending on which pollen they are allergic to.
Severe hayfever symptoms can spoil people’s summers and have a negative effect on their quality of life and ability to work optimally.
What services do we offer?
If you have severe symptoms failing to respond to other treatments, such as oral antihistamine medications, topical eye drops and so on, it is possible to request an appointment to discuss the hay fever injection privately at our clinic.
What is Hayfever injection? How many treatments will you need?
If you are suitable and all safety criteria are fulfilled it will be administered in the top of the bottom.
It starts working almost immediately and typically ‘kicks in’ anywhere from one to forty-eight hours after administration.
This medication is administered when hayfever symptoms first appear and can give symptom remission that lasts for the duration of the entire pollen or allergen season (usually three months). In some cases 2 treatments are required to cover the whole season.
The dose required to control severe symptoms is partly related to body weight, and heavier subjects will require a larger dose to ease their symptoms. We have found that the therapeutic dose for most effective relief is 1mg per kg of body weight, therefore our standard doses administered are 40mg-80 mg per patient per season.
What allergy testing we offer?
We can offer allergy blood testing testing via our laboratory partner, who provide testing for 295 allergens including:
Total IgE, Specific IgE, house dust mite, specific IgE cat dander, specific IgE dog dander, specific IgE egg whites, specific IgE cows milk, specific IgE cod, specific IgE wheat, specific IgE peanuts, specific IgE soya beans, specific IgE grass mix, specific IgE mould mix.
Current price of a blood test is £ 349.
Phlebotomy & Handling charge is paid extra £40.
